Born in Norway, the son of Andrew and Beatha Evinrude. He immigrated to America in about 1881 with his parents. In 1921 he designed an outboard motor new in design and principle. Elto Outboard was formed, and was so successful that in 1929 was consolidated with the Evinrude Motor Company and Lockwood Motor Company of Jackson, MI, under the name of Outboard Motors Corp, of which he was the president. He married Bessie Cary, a great-grandniece of George H. Walker, the founder of Walker's Point, which later merged with Juneau Town and Kilbourn Town to form the City of Milwaukee. Ole and Bessie had one son, Ralph, whose second wife was the singer and actress, Frances Langford. Bessie died May 13, 1933 in Mil. and is buried next to Ole. Other relatives of Bessie are buried in the Evinrude plot at Pinelawn Cemetery.
